The early stages saw Falkirk looking to choke the play and frustrate the home side, and for long spells that was effective.
The only real chance in the early stages saw Richie Foran head wide from a Brian Kerr corner after 16 minutes. It all changed after 31 minutes when a Steve Hammell cross/shot was deflected into the air and fell kindly for Jim Hamilton to volley high past Matt Glennon.
Falkirk had shown little until then, but they did respond with a corner which resulted in no danger. They were to find themselves two down after 41 minutes when a Stephen Craigan long ball eluded Craig Ireland allowing Foran to run behind him and flick the ball over the advancing Glennon.
Falkirk threw on an extra striker at the start of the second half with Darryl Duffy replacing Tiago, but their plans were ripped up within seconds when Well went three up. David Clarkson's pass to Scott McDonald was deflected into the path of Foran by Andrew Lawrie, and the Irishman hit a crisp shot low past Glennon into the bottom left-hand corner.
Things went from bad to worse for the visitors seven minutes in as the home side extended their lead as Shaun Fagan strode on to a weak clearance 25 yards out, and the midfielder sent a screamer past the helpless Glennon.
Glennon was left helpless again after 64 minutes as a McDonald angled drive flew past him following some fine work in midfield from Fagan.
Falkirk did try to react to this humiliation and find a consolation from somewhere, and Graeme Smith was called upon to save from Alan Gow. Duffy then produced a blinding save from Smith with 10 minutes left as the keeper reacted to a fierce drive
to save one handed.
