Falkirk 1 Ross County 0
It was anything but pretty, but Falkirk finally made it through to the Premier League for the first time since 1996 with this narrow one-nil victory over Ross County.
As the game wore on, a boring no-score draw looked on the cards until the 67th minute when the home side finally broke the deadlock.
18-year old midfielder Ryan McStay collected a clearance 25 yards out before hitting a low right-foot shot that beat Colin Stewart and struck the inside of the left upright before rolling into the net.
Ten minutes later Falkirk may well have scored a second, but Daniel McBreen's header from Scott McKenzie's cross went inches wide of the post.
The first period had little to commend it, but Falkirk did suffer a blow in the ninth minute when player-manager John Hughes was forced to leave the pitch with a hamstring injury to be replaced by Mark Campbell.
Russell Latapy had a 25-yard shot comfortably saved by Stewart, and John O'Neil was similarly thwarted early on before McBreen did find the net in the 15th minute.
The big Aussie chested down a Kevin James header 10 yards out and blasted the ball into the net, but was clearly offside and the "goal" was chalked off.
Darryl Duffy was clean through but hit wide for Falkirk just beforejk the break. The sterile pattern of play continued after the re-start, although Campbell's knock-down just outside the six-yard box after 58 minutes should have had a better result than find no takers.
After McStay's strike the 'Championees' chant rang throughout the ground, and after the whistle was finally blown the home punters, who had waited so long to take their place in the top division, were rewarded when their team returned to the park for a lap of honour.
