An opportunist goal from Carl Finnigan 13 minutes from time kept Falkirk at the top of the bottom six clubs.
But this was a dire 90 minutes where the biggest losers were the fans, who must doubt the wisdom of the end-of-season Premier League split.
It was a first half short on goalmouth action as the players eased themselves towards the end of the season.
Richie Hart fired an early volley wide from a tight angle before Alan Gow showed sublime skill to fend off three challengers before firing straight at Michael Fraser.
Manuel Lima Vitor Santos had 25-yarder held by Fraser and John Rankin tested Kasper Schmeichel from a similar distance.
But it was Hart who missed the best chance of the half for Inverness when he ran on to Roy McBain's cut-back, only to sidefoot wide from 18 yards.
Fraser had to be agile to tip Santos' piledriver over the bar, but it was honours even at the interval.
After the break Falkirk created a great opening when John Stewart flicked the ball into Finnigan's path but, with the goal gaping, the former Newcastle striker hit the bar from only six yards.
Inverness replied through a long-range strike from Hart that bobbled a yard wide before Darren Dods saw a header cleared off the line by Darren Barr.
But the decisive strike came after 77 minutes when Schmeichel's free-kick found Finnigan nipping between Dods and Fraser to lob home from ten yards.
