Greg Fleming's inspired second-half display helped Gretna hold on for a hard-earned point at the Falkirk Stadium.
The Gretna goalkeeper made a string of late saves to keep the home strikers at bay and give his side a crumb of comfort in a miserable season.
A swirling wind made conditions difficult for both teams but Falkirk took unnecessary chances in the early stages with some of their passing along the back.
It took the home side time to get into their stride. Michael Higdon - making his first start since January 5 after a knee injury - headed over from Tom Scobbie's deep cross after 18 minutes.
A minute later, Scott Arfield darted into the Gretna box but his left-foot shot was turned behind for a corner by Fleming.
Then, Arfield sent Pedro Moutinho clear and he waltzed past four defenders before the ball broke to Higdon but his shot was blocked.
But Gretna hit back and some careless defending from Falkirk presented Abdul Osman with a shooting chance on the edge of the area but his low shot was deflected a yard wide.
Graham Barrett had a great chance to put Falkirk ahead when Higdon sent him clear with a superb flick but the striker did not produce a convincing finish and Rhys Meynell managed to make the block.
The ball broke to Moutinho but he was crowded out before he could take advantage and Gretna scrambled the ball clear.
Fleming then had to be alert to grasp the ball ahead of Moutinho after another flick from Higdon had caught Gretna flat-footed at the back.
Six minutes from the break, Nicky Deverdics served a reminder that Gretna could also muster something up front but his 16-yard shot was directed straight at Shane Supple.
Falkirk looked more dangerous as the game wore on and it took a fingertip save from Fleming to keep out a fine effort from Barrett.
Higdon also volleyed wide as Gretna showed signs of creaking at the back.
John Hughes replaced Higdon and Barrett with Carl Finnigan and Billy Clarke to present them with a new set of problems.
Scobbie shot straight at Fleming after a mistake by Rostyn Griffiths and then the goalkeeper was alert to beat out a free-kick from Moutinho.
But Gretna survived a late onslaught to hold on for a point.
