Clyde 0 Falkirk 1

Falkirk moved 19 points clear of nearest challengers Clyde to confirm their status of worthy first division champions, but with the title already wrapped up last week, it was lucky that this was a meaningless end-of-season fixture rather than the promotion decider that many thought it would be earlier in the season.

In those circumstances, the two controversial decisions made by veteran referee Willie Young in the first 10 minutes - including Russel Latapy's soft early penalty - would certainly have seen tempers boil over.

Incident number one took place after only six minutes when Latapy seemed to go down fairly easily under a tame challenge from John Porter, yet Young pointed immediately to the penalty spot. Latapy then robbed salt into home wounds by chipping the ball down the middle after goalkeeper Bryn Halliwell had committed himself too soon.

Barely three minutes later Clyde's top scorer Ian Harty and most of the crowd saw his shot strike the hand of former Broadwood player- manager Alan Kernaghan, but this time Young waved play on.

A super turn and curling shot from Clyde forward, Graeme Jones flashed inches over the bar, and Falkirk keeper Alan Ferguson had to make two useful saves before half time from Mark Gilhaney and Alex Burns.

Ferguson did it again to deny David Greenhill early in the second period of a match which fizzled out before the end, although Latapy's skilful touches remained a constant delight and visiting defenders Kevin James and Kernaghan did well to block a series of net-bound shots, including two deep into injury time.
