We believe in each other - McLean

The Westfield outfit's 2-1 victory over St Mirren last weekend saw them record back-to-back wins for the first time in almost two years and stretched their impressive sequence to just one defeat in their last five games.

McLean credits manager Steven Pressley with helping to restore confidence through his open approach to squad relations, with the former Scotland defender encouraging his players to express themselves freely both on and off the pitch.

And the former Motherwell man is hopeful the winning mentality they have developed continues when he takes on old boss Mark McGhee and his struggling Aberdeen side at Pittodrie tomorrow.

He said: "I haven't been involved in a relegation battle before but I've just been trying to give the team and the fans 110% week in, week out.

"You just need to stick to your guns and trust your ability and the players round about you to pull everyone else through it. That's what we're doing just now and it's nice to have some results to show we're doing the right things.

"That's the biggest factor, getting the results whether you play well or play badly, and we'll be looking at this game this weekend in exactly the same way.

"The gaffer has been different class since he came in. He has spoken to everyone individually and he gets things off his chest and makes it open for everyone to have their say.

"I think that's a big factor come a Saturday, that you're going onto that pitch with a clear head and knowing that it's just another game, regardless of the pressures - like last weekend against St Mirren.

"You just have to go out and play and perform, and do your best for yourself and for your club, and the three points should follow.

"We're looking at every game and going into every game as if we can win it. If you don't do that there's no reason in turning up."

Although still bottom on goal difference, Falkirk hauled themselves level on points with St Mirren and to within a point of third-bottom Kilmarnock with last weekend's win over the Buddies.

However, McLean is eager for the Bairns to now use their proximity to their relegation rivals as a springboard to taking the next step and securing their SPL safety.

He added: "It's definitely been a massive boost for us to have recorded back-to-back wins.

"We had been playing well for a few weeks and it's just good to finally have the results to show for the performances we've made on the park.

"Hopefully we can continue that right through to the start of May. But we can't take that for granted just because we've won two games in a row.

"We need to kick on and keep our winning mentality going and hopefully we can get ourselves out of the situation we're in."
